By accessing or using Serendipity ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App. Your continued use of Serendipity constitutes acceptance of any updates or modifications to these Terms.
17+ You must be at least 17 years of age to use Serendipity. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet this minimum age requirement. If we learn that a user is under 17, their account will be terminated immediately and all associated data will be deleted.
Serendipity is a proximity-based social discovery application that uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to detect compatible people nearby. The App computes multi-dimensional resonance scores entirely on your device and facilitates mutual encounters through the Tavern Protocol. We do not guarantee the availability, accuracy, or reliability of the service at any time. Features, range, and functionality may vary by device and operating system.
You agree not to engage in any of the following prohibited activities:
Violation of these rules may result in immediate suspension or permanent termination of your account.
Serendipity facilitates encounters with people nearby. While we build safety into the architecture, meeting strangers always carries inherent risk. Please exercise caution.
Serendipity is not responsible for the actions of its users. You assume all risk associated with in-person meetings facilitated through the App.
You retain full ownership of any content you create, upload, or share through Serendipity, including your transmission profile, messages, and resonance preferences. By using the App, you grant Serendipity a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the service (e.g., computing resonance scores on-device, transmitting encrypted messages).
You may not share content that:
We review user reports and may take action including content removal, account suspension, or permanent bans. Because Serendipity uses end-to-end encryption for direct messages, we cannot access or review the content of private conversations. Moderation applies to public-facing content, transmission profiles, and reported behavior.
Premium features are available through in-app purchases processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. All transactions are subject to the respective platform's terms and conditions.
Monthly subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your device's account settings (App Store or Google Play).
The Founder tier is a one-time, lifetime purchase granting permanent access to all premium features. Founder purchases are non-refundable except where required by applicable law.
Prices may change with reasonable advance notice. Existing subscribers will be notified before any price increase takes effect.
Your use of Serendipity is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information. By using the App, you consent to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.
The Tavern Protocol specification is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY-4.0) license. You are free to share and adapt the protocol specification with appropriate attribution.
The Serendipity application — including its source code, design, user interface, branding, graphics, and proprietary algorithms — is the exclusive property of Moonlit Social Labs and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. All rights reserved.
SERENDIPITY IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. MOONLIT SOCIAL LABS DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS. WE MAKE NO GUARANTEES REGARDING THE QUALITY, ACCURACY, OR RELIABILITY OF ANY MATCHES, RESONANCE SCORES, OR ENCOUNTERS.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MOONLIT SOCIAL LABS, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM (A) YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE) THE APP; (B) ANY CONDUCT OR CONTENT OF ANY THIRD PARTY OR OTHER USER; (C) ANY ENCOUNTERS OR MEETINGS FACILITATED THROUGH THE APP; OR (D) UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR TRANSMISSIONS OR CONTENT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR FIFTY DOLLARS ($50), WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to Serendipity at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Reasons for termination may include, but are not limited to, violation of these Terms, abusive behavior, or fraudulent activity.
You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. Upon deletion, your beacon identity, transmission profile, and all locally stored data will be permanently erased. Data that has already been end-to-end encrypted and delivered to other users cannot be recalled.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the applicable state within the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction within the United States.
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will provide notice through an in-app notification before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Serendipity after such notification constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
